Whitebirch Software Delivers Flexible, Accurate Financial Modeling Platform; Projected Financials 3.0 Takes Headaches, Anguish Out of Scenario Analysis

Scenario Editor™ makes what-if planning faster, easier, and foolproof

Salem, MA - March 22, 2004 - Whitebirch Software, Inc. (www.whitebirchsoftware.com) today announced the availability of Projected Financials 3.0, financial modeling and scenario analysis software that produces accurate and complex financial models in a fraction of the time of traditional spreadsheet modeling. In addition to building comprehensive financial models, Projected Financials simplifies creating, comparing, and documenting what-if scenarios.

Version 3.0 of Projected Financials brings significant enhancements, including the Scenario Editor™ for creating, and managing alternative scenarios. The software's built-in business rules prevent logic and calculation errors, giving users confidence that the projections are complete, the model is correctly structured, and that the integrated set of financial statements tie out every time.

Using Projected Financials, companies enhance their cash-flow forecasting, business analysis, and strategic planning by quickly and easily obtaining improved projections, making for better business decisions. The product is already in use in a range of industries, including financial services, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, legal services, semiconductor, and accounting. Even for the most complex models, Projected Financials delivers an accurate set of financials - income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.

End Excel Errors
Projected Financials' structured modeling environment guarantees the integrity of the financial model, unlike the free-form modeling technique of Microsoft® Excel™. Users work with a library of financial objects, such as prepaid and accrued expenses and asset-based revolving lines of credit. Designed for both flexibility and efficiency, each object is configurable using a set of parameters that automatically creates line items for all three financial statements. The standard business rules built into Projected Financials dictate how and where to report such things as the gain or loss on the sale of an asset or the difference between the current portion and long-term portion of a debt instrument.

"Projected Financials 3.0 represents a major improvement over spreadsheet modeling, which hasn't changed much in 25 years. Because Projected Financials assembles financial models in a new way, customers can generate accurate models in a matter of hours that would have taken a week to create using spreadsheets," said Michael Hoffmann, President and CEO of Whitebirch Software. "The speed and flexibility of this platform provide customers the confidence to create complicated models while knowing that the financial statements are 100% accurate."

One Model, Multiple Scenarios
With conventional software, developing and comparing multiple what-if scenarios often requires more than one spreadsheet - making multiple copies and overwriting assumptions - a deceptively simple option, but one that adds time and complexity exponentially. With Projected Financials, multiple scenarios reside inside a single model with assumptions or events that can be layered to analyze virtually any business condition.

The software's Scenario Editor™ further enhances management of the what-if process by creating dates for key events, such as a product release or opening or closing a branch. The software provides the power to have all subsequent assumptions triggered by that event, making it easy to move the event date and instantly see the business consequences.

Faster Forecasting
Projected Financials gives users the peace of mind knowing that the balance sheet balances, everything ties out, projections are complete and comprehensive, and assumptions are easily understood. Projected Financials insulates users from intricate set of formulas for manipulating the data, so it's impossible to "break" the model by introducing computational or formula errors - a significant issue with spreadsheets. Furthermore, the software eliminates the need to reinvent the wheel when introducing a different set of assumptions or building a different model.

"With Projected Financials, my model easily handled multiple SKUs, dozens of stores, and a battery of what-if considerations in 20% of the time it would have taken using a spreadsheet," said Raul Arriondo President of Business Dynamix, a financial consulting company. "When data was changed, the software automatically updated the model and everything tied out so there were no concerns about spreadsheet errors."

With the power to quickly roll up the reports as monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, Projected Financials is ideal for companies seeking financing, particularly if the process requires many documented changes to the model. Reports are easily shared online as HTML pages or as Excel spreadsheets.

In addition to Scenario Editor™, Projected Financials 3.0 brings other enhancements, including business financial objects that help deliver the power to:

Assemble complicated, long-term models - With the power to look out as far as 10 years, Projected Financials provides long-range answers to such questions as changing a company's debt structure, adding personnel, or eliminating a product line.

Deliver a full set of tied-out financials - Because Projected Financials knows the intricacies of creating financial statements, a user can have total confidence that every change in the model flows seamlessly through every statement. Even when adding new elements to the model, such as a revenue stream or capital investment, built-in rules ensure that all sums are automatically recalculated and everything ties.

Collaborate in real time with colleagues - With both desktop and Web-based applications, any number of people can view and modify a financial model in real time over the Internet. When presenting a model, if questions arise or changes become necessary, it's a simple process for anyone with appropriate rights to alter the model.

Enhancement Gives Projected Financials 3.5 Power to Merge Models Across Business Units

Whitebirch Software's Release Adds Capability to Consolidate Projections

Salem, MA - May 10, 2004 - Whitebirch Software, Inc. (www.whitebirchsoftware.com) announced the availability of a significant upgrade of its flagship financial modeling and scenario analysis product, Projected Financials. Available today, Projected Financials 3.5 offers mid-size and large companies consolidation modeling and consolidation reporting, which gives companies with different business units the ability to merge separate models into a single projection. Equally valuable for firms considering an acquisition or with multiple divisions, the software provides the tools to consolidate a group of models and view set of tied-out financial documents.

Projected Financials 3.5 lets its customers create accurate and complex financial models in a fraction of the time of traditional spreadsheet modeling. In addition to building comprehensive financial models, Projected Financials simplifies creating, comparing, and documenting what-if scenarios that go beyond the scope of traditional spreadsheets and standard budgeting software. Projected Financials is used in a range of industries, including financial services, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, legal services, semiconductor, and accounting.

The new version of Projected Financials makes the software ideal for international companies and firms with divisions based on geography or business discipline. With version 3.5 of the software, personnel with different responsibilities can build models for their disciplines, and a senior manager, with overall responsibilities can then combine the data into a master model with a few mouse clicks. By creating complex business models in this way, sensitive data like salary structures can remain confidential while the top-level information flows automatically into the model.

In addition, the new Currency Converter makes rendering a model built in one currency a snap to view in another currency. All the user needs to enter is the exchange rate and the complete model built in Euros is rendered in U.S. dollars.

"Our customers rely on Projected Financials because it is the fastest and easiest tool for creating accurate financial models and forecasts, generated in hours not the days or weeks it can take using traditional spreadsheets," said Michael Hoffmann, President and CEO of Whitebirch Software. "Because long-term planning is done at the corporate level, our customers demand the ability to roll up multiple models into single, central model. With these enhancements, Projected Financials 3.5 becomes a vital, strategic planning tool for large enterprises. And it becomes more compelling for large enterprises than traditional spreadsheets like Excel."

The structured environment of Projected Financials guarantees the integrity of the financial model and insulates the user from the accounting logic of assembling financial models. The software's built-in business rules dictate how and where to report such things as the gain or loss on the sale of an asset or different kinds of debt instruments.

Projected Financials 4.0 UPGRADES FINANCIAL MODELING SOFTWARE TO ENHANCE ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION-RICH PROJECTIONS

New Software Features Custom Reporting, Data Visualization Tools, and Covenant Reports Boost Business Intelligence

Salem, MA - June 7, 2005 - Adding sophisticated charting and graphing capabilities, a custom report writer, and a powerful set of enhanced analysis tools, Whitebirch Software Inc. (www.whitebirchsoftware.com) announced today version 4.0 of Projected Financials, its flagship financial modeling and strategic planning software platform that contains innovative solutions to persistent modeling problems that go beyond spreadsheets and budgeting software.

With its new suite of professional-level tools, Projected Financials is even more powerful than previous versions, enabling corporate finance executives to create a detailed financial roadmap for their business. Version 4.0's enhanced analysis and custom-reporting features frees them to spend their time analyzing scenarios, uncovering strategic insights, and evaluating such key metrics as return on investment, net present value, cash flow, and internal rate of return.

The new software delivers unmatched data visualization tools, allowing any report to be viewed instantaneously with a wide variety of charting options. Graphically presenting trends, comparisons, and anomalies, Projected Financials quickly turns business data into financial intelligence. With charts that are automatically reformatted to match any time-frame changes, financial analysts can quickly see the effects of fluctuating dates, growth rates or any other assumption. Long-term implications of changing debt structure, closing or opening facilities, or adding personnel come into clear focus with Projected Financials and its 10-year view into the future.

"Providing the flexibility to create models that accurately depict the business is critical. But, providing that flexibility while maintaining the integrity of the model is equally important," said Michael Hoffmann, President and CEO of Whitebirch Software. "Custom reports, visualization tools, custom ratios, enhanced analysis, and covenant reports combine to make the financial platform the most powerful modeling tool available to business analysts at companies of all sizes and industries."

The software's built-in business rules prevent logic and calculation errors, giving users confidence that the projections are complete, the model is correctly structured, and that integrated set of financial statements balance every time. Unlike the free-form modeling environment of spreadsheets, which require complicated formulas that are prone to errors, Projected Financials uses customizable financial objects that automatically create all necessary line items in the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.

Detailed, Customized Multi-Dimensional Reports

Using Projected Financials, reports and charts are seamlessly generated from every business model; version 4.0 delivers the freedom to configure custom reports as well as the ability to insert custom line items into the standard set of financial statements. Businesses gain greater visibility into their financial performance, giving them the ability to react quickly to changing business needs. Comparing alternatives is an integral part of good decision-making and the flexible reporting environment allows users to create any number of scenarios and compare them side-by-side.

Extensive Analysis Tools Extract Customized Intelligence

Version 4.0 features the addition of custom ratios and more than 30 standard ratios, making Projected Financials an ideal tool for monitoring critical performance factors. Monitoring loan compliance and generating bank submissions has never been easier. New covenant reports give lenders and borrowers handy monitoring tools to clearly depict the level of compliance. Finance executives can easily perform business valuations and evaluate investments and returns using net present value, return on investment, internal rate of return and payback period.

Projected Financials is in use in a range of industries, including accounting, consulting, investment banking, manufacturing, not-for-profit, education, financial services, real estate, and health care. Customers include operating companies and those that lend to them, invest in them and consult to them. From startups to billion-dollar corporations, companies of all sizes find the combination of model integrity, customizability and in-depth analysis ideally suited to a broad range of applications.

"Developing complex spreadsheets for raising capital requires significant time and effort," said John Kupice, President of Edwards Martin Group. "Projected Financials' flexibility and built-in accuracy are outstanding - the best I've seen. Not only was I able to build a custom model in a fraction of time; it was far more complete than can be done with a spreadsheet. My time was spent applying insight and expertise to the business rather than on the mechanics of building the model."

A Web-based application that can also be used on the desktop, Projected Financials allows colleagues, investors, and bankers to collaborate on a model in real time, instantly drill down to show more information or modify the model and its assumptions. Models can be moved from one environment to the other and back again without losing data or functionality.

Projected Financials brings integrity and flexibility to model-building efforts. Built-in business rules assure the model is assembled correctly, all calculations are accurate and all financial statements tie together. The result is highly transparent models with well-defined assumptions that make review and verification effortless. Projected Financials is the only application to combine the flexibility of a spreadsheet with the accuracy and structural integrity of a template giving users the freedom to customize models to meet their unique business requirements.

New software features add speed and flexibility with move and copy capabilities

Salem, MA - June 28, 2005 - Whitebirch Software, Inc. today announced version 4.1 of Projected Financials, its flagship financial modeling and strategic planning software platform that contains innovative solutions to persistent modeling problems that go beyond spreadsheets and budgeting software. The goal of Projected Financials is to deliver more complete projections in less time with better, more-reliable results. Projected Financials continues to live up to that promise as version 4.1 adds the capability to move or make multiple copies of financial objects, called Business Building Blocks™, significantly improving model-building efforts.

"These enhancements extend Projected Financials lead in the financial modeling software market," said Kel Hoffmann, President and CEO. Projected Financials' flexibility, accuracy, and ease of use combined with extensive reporting and analysis tools make it the professional modelers tool of choice. "As our customers will tell you, there is nothing else quite like it" said Hoffmann.

Rather than the row-column-cell method, Projected Financials assembles models from a library of financial objects referred to as Business Building Blocks. These highly configurable components - equipment, property, cash, and staff, among numerous others - ensure that financial statements remain in agreement. The Business Building Blocks also come with well-defined parameters that make clear the assumptions that drive your financial projections. The result is built-in model integrity from the first iteration, and that ensures that changes can be made seamlessly to yield error-free subsequent iterations.

Projected Financials 4.1 allows users to design projections, or groups of projections, using Business Building Blocks, and then quickly replicate them, clearly a significant advantage for time-constrained model-builders. A model with multiple products or services being distributed through varied channels or numerous geographic locations can now be developed in a fraction of the time. Each copy contains all the logic and interrelationships defined in the original, eliminating the need for duplicate effort. Restructuring or reorganizing a model is now fast and easy using the Move function. Shifting projections from one hierarchy level to another or from group to group is a snap.

Projected Financials' ability to accurately measure and manage the impact of business decisions on the bottom line, on the balance sheet and on cash flow give it a myriad uses, adds Hoffmann. "Our business and professional customers use Projected Financials to raise capital, to evaluate prospective acquisitions, to analyze the impact of strategic decisions, to evaluate mergers and acquisitions and to justify capital expenditures."

July 25, 2005

Salem, MA - July 25, 2005 - Peter Coffee, Technology Editor of eWeek, reviewed Projected Financials and found the recently released version 4.0 is a "substantial improvement over spreadsheets for business financial analysis tasks". He went on to say that "organizations facing legislative and regulatory deadlines to achieve improved rigor and transparency in their internal controls should take the time to consider this overhaul of what's all too often a spreadsheet-and-e-mail budgeting and reporting process".

In a previous article commenting on the twenty-five year anniversary of the spreadsheet, he opined "If we were starting from scratch, with the pervasive connectivity of today, I suspect that we would build something that looks a lot more like the Projected Financials product from Whitebirch Software."

Mr. Coffee has twenty years experience in evaluating information technologies and practices as a developer, consultant, educator, and internationally published author and industry expert.

"We are extremely pleased that Mr. Coffee took the time to review Projected Financials," said Kel Hoffmann, President and CEO of Whitebirch Software. "Having someone with Peter's knowledge and experience recognize the many benefits Projected Financials brings to the business community means a great deal".

Projected Financials has also received positive notices in PC Magazine, Small Business Computing, Business TechEdge and other publications as a better alternative to spreadsheets for financial forecasting.

Projected Financials announces the release of two new products and an Enterprise Edition

New Products expand reach to both smaller companies and large enterprises

Salem, MA - November 22, 2005 - Whitebirch Software, Inc., the leading provider of financial modeling and scenario analysis software, today announced the restructuring of its product offering into three products and added an enterprise edition to the online and desktop editions.

Whitebirch's flagship product, Projected Financials, is now available at three feature levels including Standard, Professional, and Premier. Each product is designed to give customers the features they need to perform modeling tasks from business plans, to strategic planning, to budgeting and forecasting, to merger and acquisition analysis. The Enterprise Edition, which provides companies with the ability to work collaboratively using their own server and company network, adds to the currently available Online and single-user Desktop Editions.

"We have taken a great step toward our goal of becoming the de facto standard for financial modeling and planning." said Whitebirch Software CEO, Michael Hoffmann. "Meeting the wide variety of customer needs required offering more than a one-size-fits-all product. Now customers can choose what features they want and how and where they want to use them."

Also added to this latest release, Version 5.0, is the ability to link multiple models together into a unified whole. This is an important feature for those wanting to have multiple contributors to a model, each able to work independently without interfering with other users or for evaluating multiple projects or companies independently or in combination.

"These additions continue to set us apart as the alternative to spreadsheet based modeling" adds Hoffmann. "Projected Financials is able to do what only a handful of spreadsheet modelers can do, plus some things not possible with spreadsheets. When it comes to flexibility, accuracy, and speed, nothing else compares."

Projected Financials 5.5 Upgrades Financial Modeling Software with Performance Enhancing Capabilities

New software features full formula writing capabilities, improved tools for complete model transparency, and easily accessible contextual help system

Salem, MA - April 17, 2006 -Whitebirch Software, Inc. today announced version 5.5 of Projected Financials, its flagship financial modeling and strategic planning software platform that contains innovative solutions to persistent modeling problems that go beyond spreadsheets and budgeting software.

Projected Financials 5.5 is the most powerful offering to date with the integration of formula writing capabilities that now include conditional expressions. Expressions can be created using variables defined by using "Let" statements. Having the ability to create an expression to solve a problem such as" if sales are less than $10M then increase the advertising budget 10% or otherwise by 20%" adds increased flexibility to the model building process. The unique formula writing design eliminates the need for the nearly unreadable 'nested if statements' required in spreadsheets.

The need for transparency is of top concern for today's model builders given the importance of adhering to Sarbanes-Oxley regulations. Projected Financials' tool set now includes a "Driven By / Used By" mapping system that identifies the specific elements that drive a formula or projection coupled with how it, in turn, is used. Model builders and collaborators can easily understand how a projection was constructed and how it impacts other line items. Equal clarity is now available in reports; users can click on any number in a report and see a complete explanation of how it was calculated.

"The most hardened Excel spreadsheet modeler will appreciate the clarity with which formulas can be constructed," said Whitebirch Software CEO, Michael Hoffmann. "Combined with the ability to click on any number to get a full explanation of how it was calculated, and to map any item to its precedents and dependants takes financial modeling to a new level."

Even with these new advanced features, Projected Financials maintains the ease of use that is so important to the casual user. New built-in contextual help shortens the learning curve and increases productivity right from the start.

"Spreadsheets have become a poor substitute for building financial models with software designed for the task" adds Hoffmann. "Projected Financials is able to do what only a handful of spreadsheet modelers can do, plus some things not possible with spreadsheets. When it comes to flexibility, accuracy, and speed, nothing else compares."
